Kowhai trees are a well-known classic NZ native. With their vibrant lemon-yellow flowers and tendency to attract popular native birds, incorporating them into land restoration efforts is hard to resist. They tend to naturally occur around riverbeds. Sophora longicarinata is particularly prevalent in the Nelson/Murchison area.  

Kowhai can grow to around 8m in fair conditions. They do well with lots of sun and access to water.
