Kānuka is one of our favourites. It is one of the first species to bounce back from forest fires and cleared bush. It can handle full sun and dry hillsides, to swampy wetlands. Kānuka is arguably the specialist colonizer. Growing quickly and creating a nursery of shade and shelter for other delicate natives to thrive, which will subsequently supersede it.  Deer, goats and rabbits are not fond of it, a big advantage in establishment over other natives.

A growing body of knowledge and experience is showing that Kānuka grown in large-scale forestry planting methods (with smaller forestry grade sizes) can enable huge cost savings and improved survival rates in native revegetation. We offer a targeted grade for this kind of approach.

Kunzea ericoides is the flavour that resides here in the Nelson and Tasman region, north of the Buller and Wairau rivers. It is often be found in associated with Rimu/Beech forests of the area. Can grow up to approx 18m with white to pale pink flowers and is adored by bees.
